Nthatisi elected as mayor of Mangaung Metro─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 10:18 Sun, 15 Oct 2023
ANC councilor Gregory Nthatisi was elected as executive mayor of the Mangaung Metro Municipality.
Gregory Nthatisi was elected as executive mayor of Mangaung Metro Municipality, following a special council meeting on Friday. Nthatisi has been acting mayor since April.
His election comes months after Mxolisi Siyonzana resigned from the post after being recalled by the ANC due to allegations of financial mismanagement, poor governance and lack of service delivery.
ANC councillor Lulama Titi-Odili joins Nthatisi as deputy executive mayor, while Vumile Nikelo is council whip.
Nthatisi’s election comes after a high court judge interdicted Afrikan Alliance of Social Democrats president, Papi Mokoena, in April from executing his duties as mayor, after the ANC went to court to challenge his election.
The DA, EFF, Freedom Front Plus, ACDP and Patriotic Alliance abstained from the voting process.
