The Matjhabeng Local Municipality collaborated with the Khula Clean Up crew from aQuellé to clean up the Saaiplaas area in Virginia.

This clean-up happened on 10 June and 200 volunteers from the community took to the streets. They gathered trash from the sides of the roads in hundreds of bags.

S'khu, the friendly aQuellé Khula mascot, spent the day making everyone happy and providing hydrating Khula soft beverages along the route.

The Khula Clean-Up team has been joined by over 6 500 volunteers who have participated to date, and local schools, municipalities, and environmental agencies have volunteered to join in as well.

The Khula Clean-Up team was also joined by members of the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment, local organisations, and companies including DW Attorneys, Remax, The Daily Bakery, and Diepfontein Christian School.

Previously aQuellé used to join clean-up initiatives until they decided to have their own clean-up initiative and called it the Khula Clean-Up.

Khula is a Zulu name meaning ‘grow’ so the team thought of that name to help communities grow in looking after their communities.

Over the past two years, aQuellé Khula has participated in over 50 community clean-ups around South Africa.
