Free State metro cautions residents ahead of severe thunderstorms─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 09:15 Sun, 28 May 2023
The Mangaung metropolitan municipality has urged residents to be cautious on the roads and in their homes due to severe expected thunderstorms.
This comes after a severe weather warning from the South African Weather Service. According to Mangaung spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms, with possible strong winds, hail and heavy downpours over the western parts of both the Free State and North West tomorrow.
Khedama urged residents to pay attention to warnings and to reduce speed and switch on headlights, avoid using electronic devices connected to an electrical outlet, and to not seek shelter under trees or near electrical poles. Pedestrians should be careful when crossing the road, avoid water and don’t cross rivers or streams where the water is above your ankles. He further urged households to open pathways to allow water to flow out of yards.
