EFF member at UFS banned after sexual assault allegations─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 09:56 Sun, 12 Feb 2023
An Economic Freedom Fighter Student Command (EFFSC) member at the University of the Free State (UFS) has been temporarily banned from being part of the party after allegations that he sexually assaulted a student.
In a statement, the party explains that they became aware of the allegations through a post on Facebook that an EFF member had allegedly sexually assaulted a female student after he had accommodated her.
Through an independent investigation by the party, it was discovered that Sihle Matshoba is the member in question.
Apart from temporarily banning him from representing the organisation in any form, he has also been temporarily prohibited from assisting students under the name and banner of the EFFSC UFS branch.
He was also banned from wearing any garment that resembles the organisation.
The party had instructed Matshoba to refrain from making any form of contact with the victim.
It is explained that the matter had been taken up with upper structures. “As an organisational principle, we believe the victim and we will focus on protecting the victim’s integrity, and supporting her through the traumatic experience,” concludes the statement.
All the above will stand while the matter is under investigation.
