The police’s Thabo Covane says a 31-year-old man was arrested for the murder in Monument Road near the War Museum.

He says the deceased died due to a single gunshot wound to the side of the head above the ear. He adds the suspect was also linked to a case of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm - opened on Sunday 19 June 2022 by another foreign national.

Covane says diligent police work led to the arrest of the suspect on Friday 20 January 2023.

"On Thursday 19 January, a 31-year-old man was arrested for the murder of Chukwiebuka Nwanya by a dedicated task team from Park Road. 

“A Warrant Officer’s observation, whilst taking down a witness statement, led him to remember there was a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm opened on Sunday 19 June 2022 by another foreign national,” Covane adds.

He is set to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court soon.
