The Mahikeng Local Municipality in the North West is ensuring that the province's capital is kept squeaky clean, thanks to the #RataMahikeng campaign, encouraged by Mayor Tshepiso Mphehlo.

The campaign started earlier this year with the focus of keeping the town clean. Residents are encouraged to not throw their rubbish just anywhere but rather do so in the dustbins provided.

Mphehlo says residents should love the city and spread awareness among each other to keep it clean.

Previously, the town area used to have piles of rubbish, litter and sewer spillage, which Mphehlo says was not good for the image of the capital.

The municipality has teams that collect rubbish around town, at Mega City Mall, Montshioa-Stadt and other parts with the technical team attending to drainage systems.

A resident, Thabiso Nche, keeping the city clean is a great idea. "It is good to see that hard work is put into cleaning the city. It shows that Mahikeng is the capital and this may help attract investors."

Mphehlo says they are also ensuring that street poles are not vandalised and that measures will be taken against those found to be destroying the street poles.
