UPDATE: Two nabbed for attempting to bribe investigating officer | News Article

Two suspects have been arrested by the Hawks in North West for attempting to bribe an investigating officer.

The Provincial Hawks spokesperson, Tlangelani Rikhotso, says the two suspects, aged 50 and 28, were arrested in Klerksdorp on Sunday 23 October 2022, after offering an investigating officer R50 000 to get rid of a docket. Rikhotso explains that the docket that the duo was trying to get rid of, involves their friend who is a former senior municipal official.

“The pair were nabbed at the Hawks offices, moments after handing over R25 000 and a bottle of Glenfiddich whiskey to the investigating officer. Their vehicle was searched and R41 500 was allegedly also found. Both suspects will appear before the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court on Monday 24 October 2022 where they will be facing charges of corruption,” adds Rikhotso.

He further adds that the money and the vehicle have been seized for further investigation. Rikhotso also adds that the Provincial Head for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in the North West, Major General Patrick Mbotho, hailed the investigating officer for upholding the highest level of integrity and warned people to refrain from enticing police officials because it will not end well for them.

UPDATE: The case against Zuzumuzi Manqunyana and Peter Selena was adjourned until 31 October for a formal bail application. Both accused remain in custody until then.
