Cold front hits─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 07:26 Wed, 15 Jun 2022
Residents of the Mangaung Metro are warned to brace themselves for an intense cold front for the rest of the week.
The South African Weather Services (SAWS) has cautioned that the cold, windy conditions will continue on Wednesday and recover on Thursday.
However, the SAWS stated that it would issue another update closer to the weekend as another cold front is expected.
Meanwhile, Mangaung Metro Municipal spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, urges people to follow safety measures such as switching off electric blankets before they sleep, not leaving heaters unattended, avoid smoking in bed, to not dry clothes on heaters and storing flammable liquids in plastic containers rather than glasses.
This after stating that as the temperature drops, people will be relying heavily on open fires, paraffin gas heaters and stoves. In his statement, Khedama says that reports have shown that the apparatuses are sources of most domestic fires.
He adds that the city has an extensive proactive fire management plan in place and that they're currently rolling out a plan to ensure that they are ready for any emergency incidents this winter season.
