Free State challenged to eradicate bucket system─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 07:32 Tue, 29 Mar 2022
Embattled municipalities in the Free State have come under scrutiny during a sitting of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP).
According to the chairperson of the NCOP, Itumeleng Ntsube, the bucket system remains a major concern in the Mangaung Metro and Masilonyana Municipalities.
Ntsube said that the issue of pit latrines should have been dealt with a long time ago as it has a major impact on the health of community members. He further said that his grandmother - who resides in Botshabelo - still uses a pit latrine, adding the buckets don't get serviced in time and this has various negative consequences.

Bloemfontein Courant previously reported the state of bucket system toilets is extremely bad, the smell coming from those pit toilets is awful, and this poses a huge health threat for community members. One of the residents said that the metro has been promising them flushing toilets for years, without any success.
