Mareetsane police murder suspects remain in custody | News Article

Four suspects who were arrested in connection with the murder of two police officers in Mareetsane in the North West in July last year, are expected to remain in custody until 1 April.

This follows after they were denied bail in the Itsoseng Regional Court on Friday. The case has been postponed to allow for further investigations.

The North West National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, says owing to the seriousness of the case, the state will be applying to the Director of Public Prosecutions in North West, for the case to be moved to the high court.

Mamothame adds that a 16-year-old, who is also a suspect in the case, was granted bail of R1 000 in October 2021, which the state did not oppose and was left in the care of a guardian.

OFM News previously reported that the burnt bodies of the two police officers were discovered after they went missing whilst chasing stock theft suspects. It was also reported that Benjamin Jacobs, Jeremiah Mongale, Rapulana Keikantse, Matthews Modukane and a 16-year-old boy are facing charges of murder, malicious damage to property and the possession of a stolen firearm.
