#NWSOPA: Water treatment plants to be prioritised | News Article

North West water treatment plants are expected to be given more attention after the North West Premier, Bushy Maape, announced that the Ministry of Water and Sanitation has allocated R50 million to the province.

In his State of the Province Address (Sopa) yesterday, Maape said that the amount is set to improve water treatment plants, which include the infrastructure and conveyance of bulk water from Molopo Eye to Mahikeng reservoirs.

He said they are aiming to ensure that no one goes to bed without access to clean water.

According to Maape, the provincial government will continue to provide coordination that addresses short term water provision challenges, and collaborate with the national department for sustainable bulk water supply.

He also said that this will include the speed up of the implementation of water projects at Taung Dam, Brits Water Treatment Works and the Bloemhof Schweizer Reneke pipeline.

Maape further urged members of the community to join hands with the government in protecting infrastructure to avoid damage and service provision disruptions.
