New mayor for Thabo Mofutsanyana─── 11:00 Sat, 11 Dec 2021
The Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality - which is composed of Maluti-A-Phofung, Phumelela, Nketoana, Dihlabeng, Setsoto and Mantsopa Local Municipalities in the Free State - has elected a new mayor, speaker, and council whip.
Connie Msibi and Thabo Mokoena were elected as the executive mayor and speaker respectively. The former Dihlabeng Local Municipality's mayor, Lindiwe Makhalema, was elected as council whip. Msibi is following in the footsteps of the long-serving former mayor, Malefu Vilakazi.
All three highest elected positions are African National Congress (ANC) members. They promised to serve the residents with pride and bring services to the residents.
Most of the local municipalities falling under these districts, including Maluti-A -Phofung, Setsoto, and Dihlabeng, have had a significant challenge of supplying residents with water and electricity. Most of them owe the power supplier Eskom billions of rands.
