Centlec met to discuss allegations against CEO─── LUCKY NKUYANE 11:10 Wed, 16 Jun 2021
Centlec’s board met to discuss allegations of an illegal salary increment for its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Malefane Sebokwana.
The Mangaung Metro's power utility's spokesperson, Lele Mamatu, says the board indeed met on Tuesday 15 June 2021 to discuss the issue and is set to release a statement following the meeting.
Mamatu previously said the board was also set to discuss issues including the legal implications of unauthorised information leaked to the media and the consequences thereof.
Mamatu has also confirmed that Centlec has severed DA councillor, Mokgadi Kaganakga, with a notice of intention to sue her for alleged misinformation regarding sensitive information contained in a speech she made during a council meeting last month.
OFM News previously reported that Kganakga revealed in her speech that Sebokwana and the board allegedly increased his annual salary to R2.4 million, despite a directive from the Minister of Finance, Tito Mboweni, proposing “moderate adjustments” to wage increases way below inflation for the upcoming financial years.
Mokgadi further alleges that Centlec has suffered a loss of R5 277 086 in the current financial year. She said this loss cannot be attributed to the effects of Covid-19 but can only be blamed on what she terms, “the gravy train in the form of salary increases”.
