The 22-year-old Xander Bylsma, who was found guilty of the murders of two Stella High School learners, will soon know his fate during his sentencing at the North West High Court.
Bylsma was found guilty of double murder after he killed his ex-girlfriend, 17-year-old Sharnelle Hough, and her best friend, 16-year-old Marna Engelbrecht, in the early hours of 26 May 2018.
Bylsma was arrested in 2018 by the police after the two girls were found to have been strangled to death in the Stella High School hostel in the North West.
The National Prosecution Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Henry Mothame, confirms that sentencing will take place at 11am this morning in the Mmabatho High Court. The sentence is expected to be delivered by Judge Ronald Hendricks.
News24 recently reported that Engelbrecht and Hough's lifeless bodies were found at the hostel at Stella High School in North West. The report indicated that Hough's body was hanging from a bannister while Engelbrecht's body was found in a bathroom. "He strangled the girls and tried to make their deaths look like a suicide. Shortly after the girls' bodies were found, Bylsma confessed to a private detective, Chris Saunders, after which he turned himself in at the Vryburg Police Station and was arrested. He'd been in custody since," News24 added.
