Veld fires break out in FS─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 05:40 Thu, 11 Jun 2020
Working on Fire confirmed it recorded four veld fires that broke out in the Free State on Wednesday.
Spokesperson, Wayne Mokhethi, says they attended to fires burning concurrently across the province in the areas of Bethlehem, Qwaqwa, Warden and Thaba Nchu.
He confirmed whilst they managed to contain the fires in the three regions, the veld fire in Thaba Nchu was still raging yesterday afternoon.
Mokhethi says no injuries were reported at that stage.
"It is too soon to measure the extent of the damage caused by each of these fires. It is also too soon to identify what the causes of these fires were."
Mokhethi urged all communities, including farmers in the Free State, to be cautious when starting open fires and to always take note of the Fire Danger Index.
