Provincial Emergency Medical Services spokesperson, Sipho Towa, says details are still quite sketchy at present, but after 6:00 am EMS received a call that an ambulance and a truck had collided on the R721 between Kroonstad and Vredefort. Upon arrival a second ambulance was found to have crashed into the accident scene, resulting in further injuries. One ambulance is private, while the second is state-owned. Towa, who is on the way to the scene, says four people have died, three of which are from the two ambulance services. While five people are in a critical condition, two of whom have been airlifted to specialist facilities.

He says a civilian is also one of the fatalities. Two people have sustained moderate injuries and one person has minor injuries. The spokesperson says all the relevant authorities are on the way to the scene, including police.
