Bloemfontein - The headmaster of Fichardt Park High School in Bloemfontein says the Department of Education in the Free State's support and dedication played an instrumental role in the province achieving the highest matric pass rate in the country.
The school's Michael Barker applauds the department. He says the department did its best to support schools in the province. "They are persistant that you must commit to the task of education."
Fichardt Park High School achieved a 100% pass rate in 2016 for the sixth consecutive year. One of its learners, Welmari Volschenk, also passed her matric year with nine distinctions.
The Free State chalked up an 88,2% pass rate followed by the Western Cape with 85.9%. The national matric pass rate was 72.5%. This was a slight increase over last year's rate of 70.7%.
