Parys - The Free State has pulled off a surprise coup, achieving the highest matric pass rate nationally as the Class of 2016 celebrated an improvement on the previous year.


OFM News’ Dane Beisheim compiled the following report after a special ceremony was held at Phehellang Secondary School in Parys this morning.

Deputy President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, and Basic Education Minister, Angie Motsgekga, were among the high level dignitaries attending in order to congratulate the province’s Education MEC on a job well done.



The Free State matric class of 2016 recorded an incredible 88.2 % pass rate in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams. 

The Free State’s top achieving matric learner for 2016 is Johan Champion, from Sentraal High School in Bloemfontein. The ever dominant Eunice High School achieved the highest performance rates for Accounting and Maths.
