Bloemfontein - The public has until middle January to comment on the draft meat inspection scheme published by agriculture Minister Senzeni Zokwana in the Government Gazette of December 15.
According to the draft document, one of the objectives of the scheme is to define the scope of meat inspection in abattoirs.
The document deals with, among other things, the scope of meat inspection, legislative issues, assignment of meat inspection service providers, training, the Meat Inspection Forum, and responsibilities of inspectors, abattoirs and the government.
Interested parties can submit comments to the Director-General of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries within 30 days of the publication of the notice. The draft document can be viewed here.
