Case of neglected Bloemfontein donkeys continues─── ANDRE GROBLER 06:18 Wed, 26 Oct 2016

Bloemfontein - The investigation into the neglect of some 70 donkeys on a smallholding outside Bloemfontein is continuing, the Bloemfontein SPCA said on Tuesday.
Senior SPCA inspector, Reinet Meyer, says the investigation is almost finished. The case relates to the discovery of some 70 hungry and neglected donkeys on a Roodewal smallholding.
When inspectors arrived on the scene, several donkey carcasses were noticed lying in the veld as well as animals that could hardly stand up.
No food was available to the starving animals. All the donkeys were put down due to an infectious disease. It was suspected that the donkeys were kept due to a Far East demand for some tissue under the donkey's skin, with which an extract is made believed to help with poor libido.
The Bloemfontein SPCA branch opened an animal abuse case against the Chinese owner of the property.
