NC dams drying up─── 16:42 Wed, 05 Oct 2016

Kimberley - Dams in the Northern Cape are drying up and communities in the Namaqualand and Hantam areas are affected the worst.
According to the provincial Director of Water Sector Support, Kobus Streuders, Kamfers Dam outside Kimberley is approximately 12.5% full.
Streuders says although most communities in the Northern Cape still have a water supply, there are stringent restrictions on water usage. He mentions that there is a high need to invest in funding to alleviate the drought.
"If we do not receive rain we are going to have worse times ahead of us. We hope that it will rain this season because there are places that are already struggling with water supply."
Streuders says ground water levels have dropped and he emphasises the need for additional funding for the drought conditions.
