Bloemfontein - The Sasol Solar challenge is underway from Kroonstad to Bloemfontein today.
Defending African champions, the North-West University, is currently in fourth position.
The race started at Zwartkops Raceway in Pretoria.
Earlier in the week there was some uncertainty as to whether the team will compete after the car was upended by a sudden gust of wind during the time trial rankings.
Students and staff worked more than 40 hours straight to get the car ready for the start.
