Mediclinic Bloemfontein testing people: Heart and Stroke Awareness Month─── 08:35 Mon, 12 Sep 2016

Testing your blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol level is of crucial importance.
With these basic tests you can detect whether you have any cardiovascular disease. Heart disease and strokes are the leading cause of death in developed countries. In South Africa it is the second biggest cause, following HIV/Aids. Mediclinic Bloemfontein had an open day at the hospital last week as part of their campaign in September - the Heart and Stroke Awareness Month.
If high levels of glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure are noticed, people must undertake a fasting lipogram. The results of the lipogram can also give an indication whether or not the person has metabolic syndrome.
When abnormal lipid levels, high glucose, obesity and hypertension co-exist, it is called metabolic syndrome. The metabolic syndrome is also known as syndrome X and referred to as the deadly quartet. Treatment focuses on weight loss and exercise with additional treatment of each metabolic disorder.
