Hostage takers still on the loose─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 07:55 Tue, 23 Aug 2016

Qwaqwa - No arrests have been made in connection with a shooting and hostage situation at a community radio station in Qwaqwa.
Free State Hawks spokesperson, S'fiso Nyakane, says ten unknown men gained entry to the Mandela Park Shopping Centre in Phuthaditjhaba after cutting a fence last Friday morning.
He says they held security personnel at gun point. A presenter at the Qwaqwa Community Radio Station saw what was happening and switched over to a live broadcast.
Nyakane says the radio station's manager was taken hostage when he went to investigate. A shootout later ensued between police and the perpetrators. A police officer was shot in the leg. Nyakane says he was taken to hospital and is in a stable condition.
The hostage takers fled the scene with a police bakkie and the radio station manager's car. Both vehicles were later found abandoned not far from the scene. AK 47 and 9mm cartridges were confiscated.
Police are investigating a case of attempted murder. Nyakane appeals to anyone with information to contact 08600 10111 or their nearest police station.
