Mahikeng - The situation at the Mafikeng campus of the North West University is calm today, following last night's latest outbursts of student violence which saw two buildings set alight.

According to campus spokesperson, Koos Degenaar, the extent of the damage has yet to be determined. OFM News' Dane Beisheim is in Mahikeng, and reports that students are peacefully vacating the campus.

At the moment, all is calm at the campus, which has been described by students as a war zone last night. Students this morning have also expressed a desire to be resettled at either of the two other NWU campuses, for fear that the extended closure of the Mafikeng campus may derail their academic careers.

The university will comment on this in due course.
