The VKB Knights skipper, Theunis de Bruyn, has lauded his team after winning the Sunfoil Series over the weekend.

The Knights beat the Highveld Lions by an innings and 121 runs at the Wanderers to edge the Titans to the title.

The Knights, Titans, Dolphins, Cape Cobras and Lions all stood a chance to lift the trophy over the weekend, however, it was the side from Central South Africa who put in the most dominating performance.

Pite van Biljon was named as the man of the match, while the Proteas seamer Duanne Olivier claimed his 50th wicket of the season during the match.

De Bruyn said he was happy with the win but having his team play as a unit is more satisfying.

“It’s been a rollercoaster ride considering all the ups and downs, the rained out games, playing poorly, but I just think about this game and the first game, the way we rolled the opposition under difficult circumstances.

“We’ve shown real character and to lift this trophy after a few months of cricket, it’s a massive privilege.”

“We’re in a situation now where individuals don’t mind giving their successes to the guy next to him in the team,” De Bruyn explained. “That’s where we grow as a team.

“I’ll take an example of the last day when Duanne was bowling and had the opportunity for another five-for, but Shadley was bowling well and said ‘let him keep going, he’s bowling well’.

“And he took two wickets at the end there and it just shows you the unit. Not one of those guys would have had the success if they weren’t all pulling in the same direction, so that’s very satisfying.”

Van Biljon told OFM Sport that his maiden ton against the Cape Cobras will always be special, the one over the weekend will probably rate as his best.

“Importance, definitely right up there because this was like a final,” said the batsman.

“The wicket was really difficult to bat on so I had to dig in especially at the start of my innings.

“Obviously my first century against the Cobras at Newlands will always stay with me, but this ton at the Wanderers in those conditions will probably get the top spot."

The teams now shift their focus to the Momentum One-Day when the Titans host the Dolphins on Friday at SuperSport Park.

The Knights are at home to the Cobras on Saturday at the Mangaung Oval while the Lions entertain the Warriors at the Bullring on Sunday.
