A Northern Cape doctor, who is being accused of raping a 17-year-old female patient, allegedly has another sexual assault case against him.
The National Prosecuting Authority's provincial spokesperson, Mojalefa Senokotsoane, says the Kimberley-based medical practitioner appeared before the Kimberley Magistrate's Court earlier on Monday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 25-year-old complainant.
He says that the matter was postponed to Friday for a possible bail application. Meanwhile, Senokotsoane adds that another case against the doctor, allegedly for the rape of a 17-year-old patient, is currently before the Kimberley Magistrate's Court.

OFM News previously reported that the 17-year-old victim visited the accused's surgery for a consultation last week Thursday and the accused allegedly raped the victim during the medical examination. The victim informed her aunt, and law enforcement agencies a day after the incident. The accused was then arrested and charged with rape.

Police Minister, Bheki Cele, said the Northern Cape is amongst two provinces that have reported increases in the number of rape cases. This after releasing quarter one crime statistics for 2022/23 in Pretoria recently, indicated that 9 516 rape cases were reported at SAPS between April and June 2022 across the country.
