Former president Zuma heads to SCA─── LUCKY NKUYANE 09:54 Sun, 14 Aug 2022
Former president, Jacob Zuma, will on Monday head to the Bloemfontein-based Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) in the Free State, over an alleged unlawful medical parole ruling.
Zuma and his legal team want to appeal the ruling that his medical parole from prison was illegal.
Previously, the Pretoria High Court ruled and set aside the Correctional Services Department's decision by former boss, Arthur Fraser, who granted Zuma parole.
The decision to grant Zuma medical parole was followed by fierce criticism from the DA. The party argued that Zuma's release from prison was unlawful as he allegedly received favourable treatment because of his political stature.
A Pretoria High Court judge had ruled that Zuma should not have been released on medical parole.
In 2021, Constitutional Court judges sentenced Zuma to 15 months imprisonment. This is after he failed to appear before the State Capture Commission of Inquiry, chaired by Chief Justice, Raymond Zondo.
Justice Sisi Khampepe found him guilty of contempt of court and sentenced him as such.
However, Zuma has denied that he did not want to appear before the commission. He maintained that he merely wanted Zondo to recuse himself, given the alleged history between the two.
