Four to reappear in court for ATM bombing─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 11:06 Mon, 08 Aug 2022
A police officer and three accomplices are set to reappear in the Mogwase Magistrates' Court on Thursday (11 August, 2022).
They stand accused of orchestrating an ATM bombing, business robbery, five counts of attempted murder and two of carjacking.
According to police spokesperson in North West - Sabata Mokgwabone -Molefe, a member of the Rustenburg Tactical Response Team (TRT), together with Benene were arrested for allegedly bombing an ATM at a filling station on the R510 road near Mogwase outside Rustenburg.
Failing to open the ATM’s cash container, the four accused reportedly then took an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register and hijacked a vehicle and a motorcycle as they fled.
Molefe and Benene were the first to be arrested. It was later during investigations when the other two, Arrao Silva and Bokamoso Moabi were arrested.
Their hijacked vehicle was traced to the Sondela informal settlement, while Molefe and Benene were arrested in Boitekong and Tlhabane respectively.
“During the arrest, the police seized a rifle and boxes of cigarettes allegedly taken during the robbery,” said Mokgwabone.
All the accused are in custody following their first appearance.
