Local dancer sets his sights on global dance crown - VIDEOS | News Article

A Bloemfontein-born dancer’s friend sent him details of the Red Bull Dance Your Style competition, little knowing that he will be crowned the winner and will represent the province at the national final.

The 29-year-old Rambuti Marema, also known as, will be representing the Free State in the national final to be hosted in October in Pretoria after coming out victorious from a jam-packed Hoffman Square in Bloemfontein, where dancers and spectators supported the competition in their numbers.

This talented dancer who lives in Phahameng, told OFM News that he has been dancing since his early days. He adds that he further went to join a dancing crew in Thaba Nchu, before returning to Bloemfontein in 2012. Marema says he will be working hard towards achieving his goal of winning the final as he is one of the many unemployed young people in the province.

OFM News previously reported that Mangaung dancers were called to represent the City of Roses, where an audition in one of the biggest global dance competitions was held this past weekend. Hosted by Elly the Entertainer, the qualifier tour kicked off with workshops that showcase the various dance styles by TikTok sensation 250 Machine, Gqeberha’s finest dancer Junior King, and the Red Bull Dance Your Style Johannesburg 2021 Qualifier, Adonis Huntley. This was followed by the qualifying one-on-one battle rounds which showcased various movement styles as dancers competed to an unpredictable music selection curated by Red Bull BC One South Africa 2019 champion, DJ and musician Courtnaé Paul.

Marema hopes to come out tops in the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final that will be held in Johannesburg during the Festive Season, where over 30 countries’ best street dancers will compete.
