Bloemfontein - The Pumas are champing at the bit to get their 2014 Currie Cup campaign underway when they run out against the Toyota Free State Cheetahs on Saturday.
The side from Nelspruit will be playing in the premier division of the world’ toughest domestic rugby competition for the first time since 2011.
Coach, Jimmy Stonehouse, told OFM Sport that it’s a rather special occasion for them at home, with captain Corné Steenkamp running out for his 150th match for the side.
“Corné Steenkamp is formidable player, he’s a great captain, he’s a great guy and playing his 150th match for the team in the opening of the Currie Cup on television is a great thing for him,” said Stonehouse.
“I hope for him it’s a good game and winning game, because that will be the cherry on the cake,” he added.
“He’s a good player and he’s going to be really competitive with the Cheetahs loose forwards and this it’s going to be great to watch,” the proud coach concluded.
The two sides lock-horns at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Saturday evening, with kick-off at 19:10.
