Elevator and escalator services shut down at Mooi River Mall

Potchefstroom - Management at Mooi River Mall in Potchefstroom have shut down elevator and escalator services at its covered parking as a safety precaution due to elevated water levels.

As a result of heavy rains, water is flowing down the Mooi river at a rate of about 18 000 litres per second. Parts of the North West Province have seen as much as 200mm of rain in the past three days.

Meanwhile, a positive outcome of the elevated water levels is that the last traces of coffee creamer, which was accidentally dumped into the river from the nearby Nestlé factory last month, have been washed downstream.

Nestlé officials recently met with the Tlokwe community and DA councillor Juanita Terblanche regarding the Cremora spillage.

Terblanche says she is impressed with the way Nestlé handled the situation.
