Bethlehem - A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson in Bethlehem, this as the Free State battled raging fires this weekend.
The department of agriculture, forestry and fisheries Veld and Forest Fire Act compliance manager Malcolm Procter says farmers arrested the man on Saturday while he was allegedly trying to start a fire.
Procter says this past weekend was declared a "red" danger level due to the high probability of fires.
He says 10.5ha were lost in Rouxville, bringing to 202 000ha the total amount of land lost since the beginning of this year in the province.
