Schools that obtained a 100% pass rate will also be acknowledged for their sterling scholastic performance.

All made possible by the Kagiso Trust and the Free State Department of Education.

Listen to interviews from the day, below:

The Free State has claimed the number one spot in the country with its performance with the matric results. OFM News' Cathy Dlodlo spoke to Chief Director Communication at the National Department of Basic Education, Elijah Mhlanga, about the continued success of the province despite the Covid19 pandemic.

The Motheo district in the Free State is the second best district in the country with its matric pass rate and the top performer in the province. District Director December Moloi spoke to OFM News' Cathy Dlodlo about the challenges they had to overcome to move from the bottom of the top ten districts in the country to second place and to walk away as top achiever in the Free State.

Free State Education MEC, Tate Makgoe, said he did not expect the province to take the top spot in the country with its matric results, as the Covid19 pandemic had a serious impact on two years of schooling time for the class of 2021. Free State turned out to be the best performing province in the country. Tate said - in an interview with OFM News' Cathy Dlodlo - that when news broke last night, he was very surprised.

Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela, said she could not contain her excitement when she heard the news that the province has claimed the top spot in in the country with its matric results. She said - in an interview with OFM News' Cathy Dlodlo - that the real stars are the learners who took responsibility for their results and in turn make the province shine.
