Get to know more inside information about Lady Gaga ft Bradley Cooper - Shallow

We wrap up this week’s artist focus by reflecting just how crazy successful "Shallow" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper was. There’s definitely a few reasons it’s still lingering in The Global Top Ten…

The song topped the record charts in more than a dozen countries, and reached the top ten elsewhere.

"Shallow" was streamed 148.6 million times in the US by January 2019 and was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for selling over a million units.

As of April, it has sold 1,012,638 copies in the US.

The song accumulated 23.3 million audience impressions debuting at number 50 on the Radio Songs chart and gradually climbed to number 10, attaining an audience of 57.4 million. It became Gaga's eighth top 10 on the Adult Pop Songs airplay chart becoming her fastest flight to the tier, topping the five-week climb of "Born This Way".

‘Shallow’ has received numerous accolades, including the Academy Award for Best Original Song, the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, the BAFTA Award for Best Film Music and the Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Song. It garnered four Grammy Award nominations, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year while winning for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Song Written for Visual Media.

And, let’s not forget the oddity of Cooper performing his own vocals as part of this hype.

Cooper underwent some serious training for six months before he played Jackson Maine. Per Entertainment Tonight, the actor had singing, guitar, and piano lessons for six months just so that he could portray a country singer in the movie.

While promoting the movie in September 2018, Lady Gaga opened up on The Graham Norton Show about the first time she heard Cooper sing. She revealed, "I was blown away by him. He sings from his soul, he sings from his gut." Apparently, the director convinced her of his ability to play Jackson Maine at their first meeting thanks to his incredible voice.

And, did you notice? To ensure that the movie looked and sounded as real as possible, Cooper took to the stage at Glastonbury to film scenes for A Star Is Born. Fans were, of course, overjoyed to see the famous actor play guitar and sing alongside Lady Gaga, Metallica's drummer Lars Ulrich, and Kris Kristofferson, per MTV News. The footage is now a part of the iconic film.

Despite Cooper having comprehensive music tutelage before filming the movie, the sound viewers actually hear in A Star Is Born is provided by another musician. While Cooper is a competent player, a famous musician—Willy Nelson's son Lukas Nelson—is responsible for the music in the movie.

That being said, Cooper can play guitar, and it's really him singing in the movie.

Remember to tune in to The Global Top Ten - Fridays, 22:00-23:00. It’s the most popular singles compiled from a worldwide sample of Top 100 Sales Charts from 65 countries around the world.
