The 17-year-old Joubert Klopper of Bloemfontein has qualified for the 2019 Junior Australian Open in Melbourne.
During the qualifying which took place yesterday and today, the Grey College learner beat Turkey’s Berk Ilkel 6-2, 6-2 and Taipai’s Chang-Lin Tsai 6-4, 6-3.
Last year, Philip Henning, who also hails from the City of Roses and attended the same school, competed in all four of the Grand Slams.
The 16-year-old Cape Town player, Kholo Montsi, also qualified for the tournament, while Charl Morgan fell short at the final hurdle with a 6-2, 6-4 defeat at the hands of Lilian Marmousez of France
The Junior Australian Open gets underway on Saturday.
