The municipal by-election in the Metsimaholo Local Municipality, which includes Sasolburg, has started off peacefully this morning.
The election in ward 12 follows after the resignation of an ANC councillor. This by-election is fiercely contested by the ANC, DA and EFF and is going to be a major factor in how this municipality will be run in the feature. This follows after the municipality was run by a DA and Metsimaholo Community Association (MCA) coalition following last year’s election. This coalition has now collapsed.
Cathy Dlodlo looked at the election and spoke to the three biggest political parties involved.
