According to reports, Liverpool claims that there is no truth to speculation that Liverpool and Senegal forward Sadio Mané could be sold to Real Madrid.

The Athletic reports that the board at Anfield are confident of Mané’s commitment to the club, and are not in any doubt about his long-term future at the English giants.

Mané, 27, has been a pivotal member of the Liverpool squad which opened up a 25-point lead at the summit of the English Premier League before the competition was suspended as the battle against the novel coronavirus pandemic intensified.

Mané has made seven assists and scored 14 goals this season, only two behind Egyptian strike partner Mohamed Salah.

Earlier this month, Mané made a donation of £42 000 (R849 709) in the fight against coronavirus in his home country of Senegal.

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp has not commented on any transfer rumours, instead preaching social distancing and keeping fit while football worldwide remains suspended.

“First and foremost, all of us have to do whatever we can to protect one another. In society I mean. This should be the case all the time in life, but in this moment I think it matters more than ever,” said Klopp.

“I’ve said before that football always seems the most important of the least important things. Today, football and football matches really aren’t important at all.

“Of course, we don’t want to play in front of an empty stadium and we don’t want games or competitions suspended, but if doing so helps one individual stay healthy - just one - we do it, no questions asked.

“If it’s a choice between football and the good of the wider society, it’s no contest. Really, it isn’t.”
