South Africa’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations campaign gets underway on Monday afternoon with Bafana Bafana playing against the Ivory Coast in Cairo.

Bafana are feeling well prepared despite Angola canceling last week’s warm-up match at the 11th hour.

Bafana went through the qualifiers unbeaten, but they know that today the two-time champions will post a different threat with their deadly attack.

The captain Thulani Hlatshwayo says that are confident in their solid defence.

“We have prepared well and everything has gone smoothly”, said the defender.

“We want to keep our record and to make sure that we don’t concede goals.

“We’ve defended so while thus far. Obviously, as a team we don’t have to just defend from the back, it has to start at the front as well.”

In the first Group D fixture, Morocco beat Namibia 1-0 on Sunday evening.

Monday’s Group D clash in Cairo kicks off at 16:30.

Bafana Bafana starting XI - Ronwen Williams, Sfiso Hlanti, Buhle Mkhwanazi, Thulani Hlatshwayo (captain), Thami Mkhize, Kamohelo Mokotjo, Dean Furman, Lebo Maboe, Themba Zwane, Percy Tau, Lebo Mothiba.

Substitutes - Darren Keet, Bruce Bvuma, Innocent Maela, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Daniel Cardoso, Hlompho Kekana, Tiyani Mabunda, Bongani Zungu, Thulani Serero, Thembinkosi Lorch, Lars Veldwijk, Sbusiso Vilakazi.
