The English football giants, Manchester United, have confirmed the sacking of the team manager, Jose Mourinho.

The move comes just days after the Red Devils 3-1 defeat to the current Premiership leaders, Liverpool, at Anfield.

The latest defeat leaves United 19 points behind their big rivals and 11 points off the top four.

In a brief statement, the club confirmed that they have parted ways with the 55-year-old former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager.

“The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.

“A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager.”

There are reports suggesting that the former Manchester United player, Michael Carrick could act as caretaker manager until the end of the season.

Since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, Mourinho is the third manager to be shown the door by the club after David Moyes and Louis van Gaal.

During his first season in charge of Manchester United, Mourinho, led the team to the Europa League and League Cup titles.
