It was a week of no Premier Soccer League action, due to the international break, however, it was a busy week for Bloemfontein Celtic.

It was a matter of Celtic facing Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday during the annual Macufe Cup at the Toyota Stadium in the City of Roses.

While it was considered to be a friendly match, there is no such thing when Phunya Sele Sele take on the mighty Amakhosi.

The game in front of a near capacity crowd was one entertain affair, but it was the Soweto giants who claimed the bragging rights for a third straight year, with a 2-0 win.

The deadlock was broken in the 36th minute when Lebogang Manyama found the back of the net to hand the Glamour Boys the advantage before the break.

Celtic pushed a lot harder in the second stanza, however, it was the for Siwelele man, Dumisani Zuma, who sealed the deal just before full time.

Despite the outcome of the game, coach Steve Komphela was happy with what he saw before this weekend’s big Telkom Knockout game against Mamelodi Sundowns.

“I’m very happy with some of the observations we’ve made.

“Our main objective was to give time and see what will happen except for the two goals we conceded in a manner I thought we could have dealt better with them.

“Apart from that, listen when you’re leading 2-0 the game opens and a lot of things happen. In terms of the structure, I think we have good enough notes to go back and work on.

“We had a lot of players injured others with the national team. It has given us an opportunity to see. I’m delighted with the objective but not the result.”

More importantly for Celtic is that the former Bafana Bafana defender, Wandisile Letlabika made his comeback are being out injured for nine months.

Letlabika’s return is a timely one following the departure of Alfred Ndengane, and he says that his ready to go.

“I just want to thank the coach for giving me a chance to play after being injured for nine months. I am 150%, so I am ready to go.”

This weekend’s game between the Brazilians and men in green and white hoops at the Lucas Moripe Stadium kicks off at 18:00 on Saturday.
