The second-placed Bloemfontein Celtic will be hoping to continue their purple patch on Sunday when they host the bottom-of-the-log Maritzburg United in the Premier Soccer League.

Celtic have won their five games in the league thus far, while their counterparts have lost twice and drawn two.

Maritzburg has a great understanding of Celtic due to numerous of their players being former Phunya Sele Sele men, and this includes the coach, Fadlu Davids.

The Celtic striker, Tshego Mabasa, who has three goals this season already, told OFM Sport that they are playing the best football in a long time.

“It is going to be a really tough battle this weekend. Some of the players that we will be playing against have played for the club before.

“The fact that coach Fadlu was here as well means that he knows quite a bit about the team, but it is going to be a different ball game.

“That is because coach Steve (Komphela) has brought something different to the club, and it works for us and we have been adapting well to it.

“The team has been playing really well. The team has been playing as a unit. The defensive has been really solid this season, as well as, our front-line and we are scoring goals.

“That’s what wins you games, we defend well and we score goals, and that is the most important thing.

“We do create a lot of chances, and we must just learn to convert more of them, but it has really improved a lot from the last couple of seasons and that it really where we want to be.

“We just want to improve on the way that we have been playing and I think that there is a still a lot more to come from the club.”

Sunday’s game at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium kicks off at 15:00.
