The first cup competition of the 2018/19 season gets underway on Saturday afternoon with the first three games in the MTN 8.

At 15:00 the Premier Soccer League champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, entertain Clinton Larsen’s Golden Arrows at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

At 18:00 Kaizer Chiefs are at home against the Nedbank Cup Champions, Free State Stars, at the FNB Stadium.

At 20:30 Orlando Pirates take on the defending champions, SuperSport United, at the Orlando Stadium.

The new SuperSport coach, Kaitano Tembo, told OFM Sport that they have their work cut out for them.

“We want to do well and do better than last season.

“Last season we left it a bit too late - people may say we didn’t do well, but we finished seventh, won the MTN8 and got to the final of the Confed Cup, so for me it wasn’t a bad season.

“We want to be challenging for the top three, and be a bit more comfortable in the league and not be fighting relegation. That’s where we don’t want to be.

“That’s our target, without anyone mentioning it, that’s standard for every club.

“We will be playing against a very good team in Orlando Pirates.

“They have been playing really good football for the past 12 months, so it is not going to be easy for us.

“We are the defending champions, and we’ve got no choice but to try and defend our cup, because we have got it.”

On Sunday at 15:00, Maritzburg United face Cape Town City at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
