Shock waves were sent across South Africa and the world when hundreds of Kaizer Chiefs supporters stormed the pitch of the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, looking to express their disdain at their team's poor run of form.

The camera's captured angry Amakhosi supporters setting stadium seating and more alight while there were violent attacks on the pitch which included the brutal assault of security guards. 

Kaizer Chiefs spokesperson, Vina Maphosa, addressed the South African media not only condemning the incident but also making clear that the incident in no way reflects what the Amakhosi stand for.

Maphosa says: "We as Kaizer Chiefs are not about the violence, we are instituted on the basis of love and peace and we believe that it is not just about football."

"As it turns out it was the opposite (in Durban). We're very disappointed and we're asking the supporters to restrain themselves under the circumstances," Maphosa added.

While Chiefs are left to deal with the consequences of what transpired at the Moses Mabhida, Free State Stars shift focus to the cup final where they will meet Maritzburg United, who in their turn beat Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 in the competition's other semi-final.
