DA legislator shot and wounded in attempted robbery─── 11:19 Wed, 08 Jan 2020
The Democratic Alliance said on Wednesday one of its legislators had been shot and injured in the shoulder in an attempted robbery the previous night, once again highlighting the high level of violent crime in South Africa.
In a statement, DA chief whip Natasha Mazzone said the shooting of Cameron Mackenzie was yet more proof that "no-one in South Africa is safe, and that crime affects us all".
"South Africans live in perpetual fear. Our economy and our people suffer daily because of the scourge of crime, and we call on the South African Police Service to act swiftly to bring the perpetrators to justice," she said.
"This act of senseless violence reminds us all that the fight against crime remains one of our top priorities."
