This is according to the statistics for the 2018 academic year that was released by the South African Police Services and was contained in an answer on a written question in parliament.
Only two months after the cut-off date of these statistics – the Driehoek High School tragedy claimed four lives in February this year.
A connecting bridge collapsed injuring about 26 kids from the school in Vanderbijlpark. According to the statistics, KwaZulu-Natal had the highest rate in the country with nine deaths, followed by North West with four.
