The Toyota Cheetahs and Springbok flanker, Oupa Mohoje, is expected to find out on Thursday if he will be requiring further surgery to his troublesome knee or not.

The player has been sidelined since September 2018 after sustaining a serious knee injury in the 18th minute of the Cheetahs’ Guinness PRO14 season opener against Munster at Thomond Park in Limerick.

The injury ruled Mohoje out of the remainder of the 2018/19 PRO14, Currie Cup and the beginning of the Cheetahs current campaign.

Last year there were hopes that Mohoje would be able to play in the Free State Cheetahs successful Currie Cup campaign as he had started training with the team again during the gruelling preseason.

Mohoje’s knee injury flared up again during training recently and he started experiencing some pain, discomfort and swelling after the season.

The player was appointed as the captain of the Cheetahs last season consulted a knee specialist on Wednesday, and the Cheetahs and hoping for some good news.

At this stage, the Cheetahs have sufficient cover in the loose forward department, and this will be further boosted with the return of Jasper Wiese as from the second derby against the Southern Kings on 1 February in Bloemfontein. Wiese still has to serve one match of his suspension.

The Cheetahs' next match in the PRO14 will be on 25 January against the Southern Kings at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
