The Springboks beat England 32-12 in Yokohama on Saturday to win the Rugby World Cup for a third time.

Last tries by Makazole Mapimpi and Cheslin Kolbe sealed the deal for South Africa as they beat the English in a final for a second time. In 2007 the Springboks won their previous World Cup when they beat England 15-6 in Paris.

The Springboks lead the final 12-6 at half time thanks to four penalties by Handré Pollard, while Owen Farrell struck twice from the tee for England.

Pollard and Farrell each landed two penalties in the second half before Makazole Mapimpi scored South Africa’s first-ever try in a World Cup final when he crossed the white-wash in the 67th minute. Pollard made no mistake in landing the conversion.

The death blow for the English was struck in the 75th minute when Cheslin Kolbe evaded numerous tackles to secure the victory. Once again Pollard made no mistake with the conversion.

South Africa has become the first team to win the World Cup after losing a pool game when they lost to the All Blacks in their opening match of the tournament.

The Springboks also became the first team ever to with the Rugby World Cup and the Rugby Championship in the same year.

Along with the All Blacks, the Springboks are the only team to win the Webb Ellis Trophy for a third time.

Scorers:

England: Pen. – Owen Farrell 4

Springboks: Tries – Makazole Mapimpi, Cheslin Kolbe Conv. – Handré Pollard 2 Pen. – Pollard 6
