The Toyota Cheetahs loose-forward, Niell Jordaan, has confirmed that he is still available to play for the team, although he is not contracted.

The man who led the Cheetahs against Ulster in Belfast last year in their first ever Guinness Pro14 match has enjoyed little game time this season.

Injuries and studies played a large part in Jordaan not always being available for the Cheetahs, and furthermore, a few players in the backrow such as Abongile Nonkontwana, Junior Pokomela and Gerhard Olivier have been stepping up.

Henco Venter will also be rejoining the team after his stint at the Toshiba Brave Lupus in Japan.

Furthermore, players such as Jasper Wiese, Aidon Davis and Daniel Maartens, fill up the stock for the Cheetahs in the department. The departure of Stephan Malan may see Jordaan being offered a new contract.

There were talks that the player was set to be departing the team, however, Jordaan indicated he is targeting his degree and a contract at the Cheetahs.

“At the moment I am not contracted with the Cheetahs, but I am still going to train and practice with them, and hopefully play for them if I make the team.”

“Next year is the final year of my studies, so I will be in Bloemfontein for the full year.

“I will be trying to complete my degree and hopefully I will be able to get another contract with the Cheetahs”.”

On Monday the exciting outside back, Rhyno Smith, confirmed that he will be heading back to the Sharks for the foreseeable future.
