The Springbok Sevens coach, Neil Powell, was happy with the improvement his team showed during the past weekend’s Cape Town Sevens.

The Blitzboks had to settle for bronze in the tournament after beating New Zealand 10-5 in the 3rd & 4th place play-off.

On two occasions the Blitzboks lost their games in the dying seconds, and Neil Powell believes that this has to improve ahead of the next event on the HSBC Series World Series.

Powell added the defence also needs some fine-tuning.

We finished sixth in Dubai where we played poorly in our first four matches. We started picking up some momentum and I think we improved further this weekend.

“We let ourselves down at times, but we certainly finished in a much better state than last weekend.

“This is a good, positive way to finish the second leg of the series, with some momentum to take into the next leg in Hamilton in late January.”

The next stop on the series is on 26 and 27 January during the Hamilton Sevens.
